Homemade Jalapeño Hot Sauce

Homemade jalapeño hot sauce is a vibrant, spicy condiment crafted from fresh jalapeño peppers, vinegar, garlic, and optional seasonings. The sauce is celebrated for its lively green color, bold heat, and tangy flavor profile that pairs well with a wide range of dishes. Unlike many store-bought sauces, this homemade version allows you to customize the intensity and balance of flavors to suit your taste.

Homemade Jalapeño Hot Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh jalapeño peppers

  • 1 medium onion

  • 1 whole bulb garlic

  • 2 tablespoons oil (vegetable or olive oil recommended)

  • 2 Tablespoons vinegar

  • Salt, to taste

  • Black pepper, to taste

Method

  1. Wash the jalapeños thoroughly. Remove stems and roughly chop (you may remove seeds for less heat).

  2. Peel and chop the onion.

  3. Separate the garlic bulb into cloves, peel each clove.

  4. Heat oil in a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat.

  5. Add the chopped onion and jalapeños. Sauté for about 5–7 minutes until softened and fragrant.

  6. Add the garlic cloves and thevinegar and continue to cook for another 2–3 minutes, stirring often to prevent burning.

  7. Transfer the sautéed vegetables to a blender or food processor.

  8. Add salt and black pepper to taste.

  9. Blend until smooth. If the sauce is too thick, add a few tablespoons of water or vinegar for desired consistency.

  10. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. For extra tang, add a little more vinegar.

  11. Pour the sauce into a clean bottle or jar. Let cool completely before sealing.

  12. Refrigerate and use within 2–3 weeks for best flavor.
