Club Sandwich

The club sandwich, or "clubhouse sandwich," is a classic American triple-layered sandwich. It features three slices of toasted bread filled with chicken or turkey, crispy bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise. Cut into quarters and secured with toothpicks, it's widely enjoyed for its blend of crunchy toast, savory meats, and fresh vegetables. Variations may include other meats or cheese, but the traditional club remains a staple of American comfort food.

Club Sandwich

Ingredients

  • 3 slices of white or whole wheat sandwich bread, toasted

  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise

  • 2-3 leaves of romaine or iceberg lettuce

  • 2-3 slices of ripe tomato

  • 2-3 slices cooked turkey breast

  • 2-3 slices cooked ham

  • 2-3 slices cooked bacon

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • 2 slices cheddar cheese

  • 2 slices Swiss cheese

  • Toothpicks, for assembly

Method

  1. Toast all three slices of bread until golden brown.

  2. Spread mayonnaise on one side of each slice.

  3. Place lettuce on the first slice of bread. Add turkey and cheddar cheese, followed by a slice of tomato. Season with a little salt and pepper.

  4. Add the second slice of bread, mayonnaise side down. Spread some more mayonnaise on the top side.

  5. Layer bacon, ham (if using), and Swiss cheese over the second slice. Add another layer of lettuce and tomato. Season again, if desired.

  6. Top with the third slice of bread, mayonnaise side down.

  7. Press the sandwich gently and secure with toothpicks in each corner.

  8. Using a sharp knife, cut the sandwich into quarters diagonally to form four triangles.

  9. Serve with potato chips, French fries, or a pickle spear.
