Pimiento Cheese Spread

Pimiento cheese spread is a beloved, creamy, and tangy cheese spread that has strong roots in Southern American cuisine. Often referred to as "the caviar of the South," it combines shredded sharp cheddar cheese, mayonnaise, and diced pimientos

Pimiento Cheese Spread

Ingredients

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise

  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese

  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/2 tsp onion salt

  • 1/4 tsp celery seed

  • 1 tsp sugar

  • 1/2 cup diced pimientos (drained)

  • 2–4 tbsp heavy cream

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and mayonnaise. Mix until completely smooth and creamy.

  2. Add the shredded Swiss cheese and Cheddar cheese to the bowl. Stir until evenly incorporated.

  3. Sprinkle in the garlic powder, onion salt, celery seed, and sugar. Mix thoroughly to distribute the seasonings.

  4. Fold in the diced pimientos.

  5. Add 2 tablespoons of heavy cream. Stir to combine. If you prefer a softer, more spreadable consistency, gradually add more heavy cream, one tablespoon at a time, until the desired texture is reached.

  6. Transfer the spread to a serving bowl or airtight container. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to blend.

Serving Suggestions

  • Serve chilled with crackers, fresh vegetable sticks, or toasted bread.

  • Use as a filling for sandwiches or wraps.

  • Enjoy as a flavorful dip at parties and gatherings.

Tips

  • For extra sharpness, substitute all or part of the Cheddar cheese with extra-sharp Cheddar.

  • Add a dash of hot sauce or a pinch of cayenne pepper if you prefer a spicy kick.

  • Store leftover spread in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
