Cheeseburger Soup

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds of ground beef

  • 2 Tablespoons cooking oil

  • 1 large onion

  • 2 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 cup flour

  • 4 teaspoons dry mustard

  • 1 package of sliced American Cheese

  • 1 Tablespoon chicken base

  • ½ gallon of water

Method

  1. Add the oil to a large pot over medium-high heat, then add the ground beef and begin to brown. Dice the onion and add it to the browning meat; continue to brown the meat until it is thoroughly cooked.

  2. Turn the heat to medium and stir in flour to form a roux.

  3. Cook the roux over medium heat for 5 minutes, stirring continuously. Add water and cook for an additional 5 minutes, continuing to mix with a whisk.

  4. As the soup begins to thicken, add the Worcestershire sauce, mustard, and chicken base. Continue to stir and add the American cheese, a couple of slices at a time, until well dissolved and combined into the soup.

  5. Simmer and continue to stir for 10 minutes before serving.
