Deep Fried Artichoke Hearts

Deep fried artichoke hearts are tender pieces of artichoke, coated in a seasoned batter or breadcrumbs, then fried to a golden crisp. Their texture is a delicious contrast—crunchy on the outside, soft and savory inside. Served hot with herbs, cheese, and dipping sauces like aioli or marinara, they’re a popular appetizer or snack in Mediterranean and American cuisines.

Deep Fried Artichoke Hearts

Ingredients

  • 1 can whole artichoke hearts

  • 3 eggs

  • 2 cups breadcrumbs of your choice

  • 1 teaspoon lemon pepper

  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger

  • 1 orange

  • 3 cups vegetable oil

Method

  1. Drain the artichokes and cut in half lengthwise

  2. Whip the eggs with the lemon pepper and ginger

  3. Create a dredging station with the beaten eggs and the breadcrumbs

  4. In a large frying pan, heat the oil to medium-high

  5. Dredge the artichoke hearts in the egg wash, coat them evenly with the breadcrumbs, and set them on a paper towel-lined plate.

  6. Gently place the breaded artichoke hearts into the heated oil, and fry them until they are golden brown

  7. Place the cooked artichoke onto another paper towel-lined plate and drain for a bit

  8. Serve with a sauce and orange slices
