A Grilled SPAM, Egg, and Cheese Sandwich is a comforting meal featuring pan-fried SPAM, a cooked egg, and melted cheese between two slices of buttered bread. The sandwich is grilled until the bread is golden and the cheese is gooey, resulting in a warm blend of crispy, creamy, and savory flavors.
Grilled SPAM, Egg, and Cheese Sandwich
Ingredients
1 can SPAM
1 onion
1 tomato
1 cup spinach
1 pound horseradish cheddar cheese
4 eggs
2 slices bread
Method
Prepare the Vegetables:
Peel and thinly slice the onion.
Wash and slice the tomato into thin rounds.
Rinse the spinach and pat dry.
Slice and Cook the SPAM:
Open the can of SPAM and cut it into 4-6 slices.
Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the SPAM slices and cook for about 2-3 minutes per side until they're golden and crispy. Remove from the pan and set aside.
Cook the Onion:
In the same skillet, add the sliced onion. Sauté over medium heat until soft and caramelized, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from the pan and set aside.
Cook the eggs:
Crack the eggs into the skillet (you can cook them individually or as a scramble, depending on your preference).
Cook until desired doneness; fried or scrambled both work well for this sandwich.
Assemble the Sandwich:
Lay both slices of bread on a cutting board.
Layer one slice with spinach, sautéed onions, tomato slices, cooked SPAM, and cooked eggs.
Generously add shredded or sliced horseradish cheddar cheese over the top.
Top with the second slice of bread.
Grill the Sandwich:
Heat a clean skillet or griddle over medium-low heat. Butter the outside of both bread slices (optional, for extra crispiness).
Place the sandwich in the skillet and press down gently. Cook for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until the bread is golden and the cheese is melty.
Serve:
Remove from the pan, let cool for a minute, then slice in half and enjoy while hot!
Tips
For extra flavor, spread a thin layer of horseradish or mustard on the inside of the bread.
Try adding a dash of black pepper or hot sauce to the eggs for a spicy kick.
If you prefer, substitute another type of cheese, but horseradish cheddar adds a unique tangy flavor.
