Hunan Chicken


For the Chicken

  • 1-pound chicken breasts, large dice

  • 2 Tablespoons vegetable oil, or as needed

  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt

  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

  • 2 Tablespoons cornstarch, or as needed

For the Sauce

  • ½ cup of chicken broth

  • 3 Tablespoons oyster sauce

  • 2 Tablespoons soy sauce

  • 2 Tablespoons chili sauce

  • 1 ½ Tablespoons honey

  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch

For the Vegetables

  • ½ onion, chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic minced

  • 2 cups broccoli, chopped

  • 1 carrot, sliced

  • 1 bell pepper, large dice

  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil


  1. Make the sauce by whisking all the ingredients together in a small bowl, set aside

  2. To a bowl, add the cornstarch, salt, and pepper and combine. Toss the chicken in the cornstarch mixture.

  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over medium heat

  4. Add the chicken to the oil in batches and cook for about 3 minutes per side until golden brown.

  5. Pull the chicken out and set it on a paper towel-lined. plate

Cook the Vegetables

  1. Add the sesame oil to the wok, keeping the heat at medium heat, and add the onion and cook until soft.

  2. Add the garlic and cook until fragrant.

  3. Add the broccoli, carrot, and bell pepper, and cook for about 4 minutes.

  4. Add the chicken back into the pan, add the sauce, and cook for about 3 minutes, stirring until the sauce thickens.
