Loco Moco is a Hawaiian dish made with rice, a hamburger patty, a fried egg, and brown gravy. It's a popular and filling meal found in many Hawaiian restaurants and cafes.
Loco Moco
Ingredients
2 cups rice
1 pound ground beef
1 Tablespoon steak seasoning
1 clove garlic
1 medium onion
2 teaspoons oil
1 Tablespoon soy sauce
1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2 cups beef stock
2 Tablespoons cornstarch
2 Tablespoons water
4 eggs
Method
Cook the rice while cooking this recipe, and keep hot
In a large bowl, mix the hamburger and the steak seasoning.
Make four patties and set aside
Slice the onion and the garlic and set aside
In a large skillet over medium heat, fry the hamburger patties on both sides until you develop a nice brown color crust, and they are cooked to an internal temperature of 165 degrees F
Pull the patties out of the pan and set aside
Add the oil, the onions, and the garlic
Cook the oil and garlic, scraping the bottom of the pan with a spoon to release any bits that have stuck to it.
When the aromatics are caramelized, add the soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce, and deglaze the pan.
Cook until the sauces diminish, then add the beef stock
Bring the beef stock to a boil
Make a slurry with the water and cornstarch, then stir it into the pan in the middle to thicken the sauce.
Turn the heat to simmer, add the patties back into the pan, and simmer for about 10 minutes
During this time, poach or fry the eggs.
Add rice to a plate, stack it with the hamburger patty, cover it with the sauce, then add the egg to top the stack, and garnish with sliced green onions.
