Deep fried walleye is a beloved dish in the Midwest and northern regions of the United States, especially around the Great Lakes and in states like Minnesota and Wisconsin. Walleye, a freshwater fish known for its mild flavor and firm, flaky texture, is often considered a delicacy among anglers and food enthusiasts.
Deep Fried Walleye
Ingredients
Walleye
Corn meal
Eggs
Flour
Milk
Vegetable oil for frying
Method
Heat about 4 inches of vegetable oil in a large pan or cast-iron pot to 350 degrees.
Skin and cut the walleye into small 1-inch filets
Set up a dredging station and bread all the fish and set them on a tray
Once the oil is hot, add the breaded fish one at a time, without crowding the pan, and let the fish cook until it floats; then remove the fish and place it on a paper towel to drain and cool. The fish should be opaque inside when it is done.
