Walleye, a freshwater fish known for its mild flavor and firm, flaky texture, is often considered a delicacy among anglers and food enthusiasts.

Deep Fried Walleye

Ingredients

  • Walleye

  • Corn meal

  • Eggs

  • Flour

  • Milk

  • Vegetable oil for frying

Method

  1. Heat about 4 inches of vegetable oil in a large pan or cast-iron pot to 350 degrees.

  2. Skin and cut the walleye into small 1-inch filets

  3. Set up a dredging station and bread all the fish and set them on a tray

  4. Once the oil is hot, add the breaded fish one at a time, without crowding the pan, and let the fish cook until it floats; then remove the fish and place it on a paper towel to drain and cool. The fish should be opaque inside when it is done.
